Bow Strings
All BlackBrook’s Bows come complete with an endless loop (skain) string, ready to shoot. The string material we use is BCY’s 8125. We have found this to be very consistent and reliable, durable and very low creep.
Generally bow weights up to 35 lb have 12 strands, up to 45 lb 14 strands and 16 & 18 strands beyond. Different strand count strings can be made upon request.
These strings will take about 50 shots or so to shoot in and will have some initial stretch, so you’ll need to put some twists into the string to maintain the brace height.
You may find that a warm spell will also cause the string to stretch a little, too.
If you shoot a lot, say twice a week, every week then you should be looking at replacing you string at least every 6 months, sooner if it starts to go furry!
The centre serving we us is a good hard-wearing one, and will fit most arrow nocks.
If the nock/string fit is too loose you are in danger of dry-firing your bow which can damage it, long-term. So, if the nock fit is too loose then wind a little dental floss between the nocking points to tighten it up.
If you want a spare string, it’s best to order it at the same time as the bow.
Otherwise send us a stamped addressed envelope with a cheque for £10, including the serial no. of the bow, too.
Brace Heights
Are measured from the throat of the grip (pivot point) to the string and should be between:-
